ABB in Indonesia has been recognized for its contribution to strengthening the country’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem and supporting the Indonesian government in accelerating the adoption of electric mobility.

The recognition was presented to ABB by Listrik Indonesia, a leading local media group. Listrik Indonesia focuses on the energy sector and actively promotes the adoption of electric mobility in Indonesia.

ABB was selected as the winner following a rigorous assessment by a judging panel comprising members of the Indonesian Energy Council, Institut Teknologi PLN and electrical engineering industry experts. The assessment considered leading technology and innovation in electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

“ABB offers complete solutions across the e-mobility value chain, from power generation and distribution to the connection to the vehicle. Our advanced electric charging solutions demonstrate how ABB continues to innovate in technologies that will help our customers and partners achieve their goals for a low-carbon future,” said Dodon Ramlie, Vice President Director of ABB in Indonesia.

“ABB is proud to receive this recognition as we continue to promote electric vehicle adoption in Indonesia. We have been actively working to roll out electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country, supporting the government’s efforts to reduce emissions in the transport sector,” said Jorge Aguinaga, Head of ABB’s Electrification business in Indonesia.

This “Achievement Appreciation” recognition was part of Listrik Indonesia’s 12th anniversary celebrations. The media group assessed several companies and individuals for recognition of their contributions to the development of electricity infrastructure in Indonesia. There were five categories for individuals, sixteen for corporations and four for corporate leaders. ABB was included in the corporate category.

The evolution of e-mobility in Indonesia

Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia’s largest economies, records annual car sales of around one million units. The government aims for electric vehicles to account for at least 20 percent of total domestic vehicle sales by 2025, reducing the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels and enabling Indonesia to maximize its abundant nickel reserves, a key material for lithium-ion batteries.

In 2019, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo signed Presidential Regulation (Pepres) Number 55 of 2019 on the battery-based electric motor vehicle program for road transportation, which will accelerate the development of electric cars in Indonesia. The regulation affirms the government’s commitment to realizing its ambition of becoming a major electric vehicle producer

ABB - a global e-mobility leader

ABB is a world leader in electric vehicle infrastructure, offering a complete range of charging and electrification solutions for electric cars, electric and hybrid buses, as well as ships and railways. ABB entered the e-mobility market in 2010, and today has sold more than 400.000 electric vehicle chargers in over 85 markets; more than 20.000 DC fast chargers and 380.000 AC chargers, including those sold through Chargedot. Its commitment to advancing e-mobility is demonstrated most clearly through its title partnership with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. From Season 9, in 2022-23, ABB will become the championship’s official supplier.

In Indonesia, ABB successfully installed two DC fast chargers for BPPT in Serpong, West Java, and for the PLN Jakarta Distribution Unit at its head office in Gambir, Jakarta, in 2018 and 2019 respectively. ABB also showcases a charging unit at the WTC office complex in the heart of Jakarta’s business district, where ABB Indonesia’s head office is located. Last year, ABB also installed AC Wallbox home charging for Verde Two Apartment, the first apartment in Indonesia with electric vehicle charging infrastructure for residents. These efforts by ABB have provided strategic support for the government’s efforts to adopt smart, reliable and emission-free mobility solutions.
