Definition of Dynamic Balancing: “ Dynamic balancing is a method of balancing a machine by spinning a component rapidly and measuring its imbalance using electronic equipment. The measured imbalance can then be corrected by adding or removing weight from the rotating component until its vibration is reduced. "
Essentially, all machines have some form of residual vibration. Excessive vibration in rotating machines can cause high noise levels and, more significantly, considerably reduce component life. Ideally, all causes of vibration should therefore be eliminated so that the machine runs completely smoothly. Balancing is the removal or addition of weight to the equipment so that its effective center of mass approaches the true axis.
In addition to Dynamic Balance, there is also Static Balance. When a component is statically balanced, its center of gravity lies on the axis of rotation. This means the component will remain stationary on a horizontal axis without the application of braking force. It also has no tendency to rotate due to gravity.
